What a Twitter I was!

Hi Everyone

Just had to post this short comment about what a Twitter I’ve been!

I signed up for Twitter a few months back but had no clue about what to use it for and why. Twitter just sounds stupid to me (sorry, guys).

At the time I was interested in stocks and shares training, until I realised that having money to invest in the first place would be a good thing, so I switched to Internet Marketing…what can I say?

Anyway, initially I followed loads of news channels to stay current with the economy, including BBC World News because it is one of the best and Anderson Cooper of CNN News because he is good looking! I pecked away at the list of accounts until I got tired of selecting twits to follow when I got to 20 in number, and what a Tweet it was when over the next few weeks I collected 8 followers of my own, wow.

Then…sudden revelation. What a Twit I had NOT been! Time I flew out of the nest!

Just this week I started to search for followers among the Internet Marketing, Work at Home  and Copyrighting niches – and this is what I just wanted to give a Tweet about – now  am following 75 twits and I have  235 twits following me!

Don’t ask me how it works, I don’t know! I have been tweeting my blog posts and retweeting (forwarding someone else’s tweet) other good messages to my followers. But where did they come from? Can anyone explain the exponential growth in my Birdfriends – cos although I love it, I don’t really get it.

Anyway, as traffic goes, Twitter is chirpy, chirpy, cheap, cheap, chirp. It’s strange – but I like it.

Can someone please twell me how it all works, or at least twie to? That will be so tweet of you, thanks

Jaycee

    Hey Jaycee,

You have already given almost all the answers to your question as to how Twitter works “I have been tweeting my blog posts and retweeting (forwarding someone else’s tweet) other good messages to my followers.” –
You see, of course as your blog posts and tweets are always a good read they are always worth spreading. And when people spread the word others get to know your posts, check them out, see you twitter link and tata you´ve got a new follower.
People also search Twitter for keywords to find people they might have something in common with. In your case you´ve “learning online marketing” in your Twitter bio. Anyone searching for online marketing on Twitter will get a search result that points to thousands of Twitter accounts but one of these accounts is yours.
You might have noticed that I have a big bunch of followers on Twitter -BTW: that´s just because I started in June last year and wanted to get behind the system of building a big list of followers, then got hooked on the whole thing for a couple of months- ? Anyway, I think I might have tweeted about one or two of your blog posts and that might have brought more tweeps to your twitter account.
If you have a look at your followers you´ll see, that there are a lot of internet marketing related accounts and people. So, what was your question again :-)

    Mirko

P.S. Won´t be able to make it to London next weekend but I am looking forward to get your report about it.

    Hey Jaycee,

Many people uses Twitter for different things. The best way to start is to use it to build relationships. I have to admit when I joined Twitter months ago, I did not know much about it, and was initially posting opportunities.I have deleted all these tweets actually and now plan to use it like Alex did to meet people and build relationship. I have not gone over the 2000 followers mark as yet.

PS. Thanks for your blog comment, and subscribing to my RSS. I have posted my stats at the blog.

      Hi Louis

Thank you for your comments on Twitter.

(As an aside, I liked your wordpress theme so much I went looking for the company that designed it. I mis-read the copyright as I-selvon instead of L-selvon and couldn’t find anything on google. Did you design it yourself?)

Maybe a silly question, but do you direct message people as the only method of relationship building, or what?

      cheers

        Hey Jaycee,

Sorry about this. I need to tick the option on your blog to keep up to date that you asked a question. I had to visit your blog to see that you asked something. To answer your question, the theme is not mine. I purchased a package that gave me access to it and a whole bunch of others. I will find out who they are and let you know.

With Twitter the way to go is to first send them a message within Twitter, and if they respond, and then go from there. Anna at her blog mentioned how she sent a message to Maria Andros, and she responded to her. It all depends on how they respond to you and go with the flow. This would be a good question to raise at the member’s forum and get feedback from Alex and others on this.

I have ticked the option “Notify me of follow up comments via email”.

Incidently can you tell me how you added this option of email notification. Which plugin does this so that I can add this option to my blog for other to have that option.

Please leave a comment at my blog about stats. I need to show that my comments goes up also. Much appreciated.

          Hey Louis

Thanks for your responses, and I understand that you missed the question/follow-up comments. I am often in the same boat. I tried to install a plugin to resolve this, that will pick up my comments anywhere on the web and post it to a page on my blog. I can either keep that page private, or publish it. Anyway, I installed the plugin, but it isn’t working. It’s called “My Comments Elsewhere”. If anyone knows about this plugin, a similar one, or how I might get it to work, please advise.

With regard to the theme you use, yes, I would be interested to know which company you got it from. I have tried other themes out here, but not activated them. My one is still missing some components I see in others, but I want to retain a kind of friendly/feminine touch to my blog. I don’t want to look too corporate, cos’ that’s just not me (been there – I was one crazy accountant when I was in full-time work!)

With regard to the follow up comments the plugin is called “subscribe to comments.” Having said that, I have seen other blogs with RSS feeds for posts and another for Comments and that’s what I’m going to look to install shortly.

I’m popping over to your blog now.
          Lovely to hear from you.

    Hi Jaycee,

Well, it’s obvious: just be yourself, interact in your inimitable, effervescent way with your followers, vary it a bit, i.e., don’t always tweet about the same stuff, and above all, provide value. Insights and motivational tweets are a good staple. (Ooops, now I’ve given away a secret.)

A very good guy to follow is the @emailcopywriter (Kenneth Yu). So are lots of others. But don’t make the mistake of following just to grow your numbers I did). You can do better than that.

    Onwards and upwards

Thanks for your comments and advice. I will go check out Kenneth Yu, and I do plan to pick just a few people and get into more direct contact.

    Jaycee,

I have a love/hate relationship with twitter and I’ll tell you why.

When I first used it it was to generate traffic, it worked a treat.

In my first 4 days I had over 750 and was only following about 150 people. But what you’ll find out is that A LOT of people use it just to pitch, pitch, pitch.

It can become a spam fest.

Also, I want you to try something for me (…or tell me something I should say…)

Tell me the amount of followers you have after Sunday.

What you’ll find is that if you don’t follow someone back (…not because you don’t want to but maybe because you just haven’t had the time yet…) by Sunday they would’ve unfollowed you (…as I found when my numbers went from about 750 followers to near enough the amount of people that I was following…)

    BUT…

Now that I’m changing the way that I use Twitter, I can see that it can be the most powerful AND FUN tool out there.

Where else can you just spark up a conversation with the world’s top Internet Marketers. (…In my first week had a direct conversation with Kevin Riley, he’s a really nice guy and doesn’t use twitter to promote stuff all the time…)

If you try to email them, it’s more than likely it won’t be them reading the email.

If you go to see them, you’ll probably get done for stalking! (…I haven’t done this by the way, just saying :-)

But building relationships is what business is all about and twitter is a fantastic way to do that.

So I’ll be firing up my twitter account again in due course.

Thanks for the great post mrs

    Reach new heights,

      Hi Nathan

Thanks for your useful comments. I haven’t checked my email for a couple of days, so its true, I haven’t followed anyone back in the last few days. Currently I have 249 followers, so I will let you know at the end of the week how many I have.

I think what I will also do is follow twitter on my mobile – do you guys do it that way, too?

      Thanks again for your comments

    Hey Jaycee,

Nice article. When i first created my twitter account, i followed 20 great people in my niche, and got more 100 followers in single day.

Then i started retweeting others posts instead of following other people. and i think retweeting other posts is really great to get targeted followers.

Thanks for sharing this great Post.

I hop you have enjoyed your hubby’s birthday.

      Hey Dev

Thanks for the advice on the retweets – That makes sense, as you are giving a ‘Big G’ to another person and I’m sure they appreciate that – I would! (So go tweet some of my stuff!) :)

As for hubby’s b’day? Yeah, it went really well, thankas for asking. Held in a church hall and unfortunately some guests didn’t read my text message proper and sat outside the main church for 2 whole hours! Nonetheless, they eventually found us and a good time was had by one and all.

Though my hubby’s 50th was great, I’m certainly not looking forward to mine! But looking behind ain’t so much fun either – (my bum does look big in this!) :)

And check out my online saga Jason and the BlogQuest at http://janetchandler.com/jason-and-the-blogquest . You can retweet that, too, if you like!

      Cheers

I do not do enough with Twitter myself.

As a matter of fact I just followed you last night.

I typically only auto tweet new blog posts. I have been trying to be more social and I have even replied to several tweets lately.

It is hard to get on Twitter during the day when I am at my day job. Someday when I am working from home I will be able to really get involved.

I have started to unfollow some people because of all the spam tweets I have been getting.

      Hi Rick

      Thanks for the Twitter Follow!

I myself have been replying to one or two tweets, but I’m still not used to the whole thing. It seems a little cold and distant, but I just need to get used to how it looks, I suppose.

Also, I think I need to follow some of the accounts I followed early on – when I was considering the stocks and shares niche – as I get lost among the Tweets and can’t see the twigs from the twees.

A bit like Facebook. I’m still not used to that social network either, and so don’t use it as often as maybe I ought. Sad thing is , though, when I went onto Facebook today to add friends and family – seems like they are worse than me – as I couldn’t find ANY new names to add as friends! Sad – but true. A family of Dinosaurs!

      Thanks for your useful comments
